Chapter 7
Introduction
The main focus of Chapter 7 will be on migrating NetWare server information to Windows NT servers using the Migration Tool for NetWare. Migration planning stages and steps will be discussed. Case studies will used to demonstrate the various migration options and scenarios that can be taken. In-depth study will be made of how NetWare user and group accounts, and NetWare file system security information are migrated to Windows NT. A trial migration and review of trial migration logs files will be included, highlighting areas where problems are generally encountered with possible solutions. Finally, a live migration will be demonstrated.
During the course of integrating Windows NT Domain servers into an existing NetWare server environment, however, user and file system information may be required to migrate from Windows NT to NetWare. Such an action can facilitate single login and attach capability to a multiserver, multiplatform network environment by having the same user account information on both server platforms. In the latter part of the chapter, we will explore what options are available to accomplish this task.
