Chapter 2

Integration and Migration Issues

Planning, Management, and Tools

Introduction

This chapter covers the major areas of concern for integrating NetWare and Windows NT. It will set the stage for much of the rest of the book as it will provide an overview of all of the different possible ways to integrate clients and servers in a multi NetWare and Windows NT network environment. Particular emphasis will be made on the project management and support issues involved. We will cover the migration processes and how to support a single network user login/logon in a multi NetWare and Windows NT network environment (although this issue is discussed more completely in Chapter 6). Finally, during any information systems integration and migration project, a number of basic steps or procedures should be followed. We will highlight these procedures and take the reader through actual case study examples.

Chapter Objectives:

o Integrating NetWare and Windows NT

o Migrating User Directory Databases
